The foot is a complex anatomical structure consisting of 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles, and 107 ligaments. Given the complexity of the foot, it is no surprise that most people will experience some sort of problem at one point in their lives.
The Achilles tendon is a band of soft tissue that connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon. Achilles tendonitis is an over-use injury, caused by an increase in repetitive activity.
The Achilles tendon is a band of soft tissue that connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. An Achilles tendon rupture is a partial or complete tear of the tendon. This occurs then the tendon is suddenly over stretched from activities such as, running, jumping, or falling from height.
Ankle instability is a condition that is described as having a recurring “giving way” of the outside of the ankle. This condition occurs after repeated ankle sprains.
Arthritis is a painful inflammation and stiffness of a joint. Characterized as a “wear and tear” disease, where the cartilage in a joint wears down due to repetitive use and stress over time.
Athlete’s foot is a skin condition caused by fungus. It commonly attacks the feet because shoes create a dark, warn and moist environment which fungus thrives in.
A bunion is a painful bump on the side of the big toe joint. It is formed when the bone behind the big toe moves away from the foot causing the big toe to lean toward the 2 nd toe
Corns and callus are a thickened area of skin on the foot caused by pressure and friction, like repeated rubbing against a shoe. A corn differs from a callus in that it has a central core of hard material.
Adult acquired flat foot is a condition characterized as a change or weakness of the posterior tibial tendon, which is one of the major supporting structures of the foot. Resulting in flattening of the foot
Toenail fungus is an infection underneath the surface of the nail caused by fungus. Over time toenail fungus can change the appearance of the nail, such as a causing brownish discoloration and/or thickening of the nail.
A hammertoe is a contracture or bending deformity of the toe at one or both joints of the toe.
Heel pain is a common condition of the foot. Typically caused by plantar fasciitis, but could also be caused by other conditions such as stress fracture, nerve irritation, or tendonitis.
Ingrown toenails are one of the most common nail deformities. An ingrown nail is typically curved and grows into the skin at the nail borders, irritating the skin, causing pain, redness, and swelling of the toe.
A neuroma is a thickening of the tissue that surrounds the nerve. When in the foot the most common neuroma occurs between the third and fourth toes, but may occur in any part of the foot.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue on the bottom of the foot that connects the heel to the toes.
Adult acquired flat foot is a condition characterized as a change or weakness of the posterior tibial tendon, which is one of the major supporting structures of the foot. Resulting in flattening of the foot
A wart is a small skin growth caused by a virus that typically appears on the bottom of the foot.
